چکیده

One of the challenges of using light-cone methods 1,2 to solve nonperturbative problems in field theories such as quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is to develop a nonperturbative regularization and renormalization scheme. Here we discuss a new approach 3,4 based on generalized Pauli–Villars regularization 5 and discretized light-cone quantization (DLCQ). The DLCQ Fock basis is expanded to include momentum states of Pauli–Villars particles which provide the cancelations needed to regulate ultraviolet divergences. The determination of the number of Pauli–Villars particles and of their coupling strengths is done in perturbation theory, where loop integrals are rendered absolutely convergent. We test this approach on a simple model designed to have an analytic solution for the lowest massive state. The model is related to an equal-time model of Greenberg and Schweber, which has also been translated to the light cone by G lazek and Perry.

Pauli–Villars regularization in DLCQ

Abstract. Calculations in a (3+1)-dimensional model indicate that Pauli-Villars regularization can be combined with discrete light-cone quantization (DLCQ) to solve at least some field theories nonperturbatively. Discrete momentum states of Pauli-Villars particles are included in the Fock basis to automatically generate needed counterterms; the resultant increase in basis size is found acceptab...

Pauli-villars Regularization and Discrete Light-cone Quantization in Yukawa Theory

As a step toward development of a method for nonperturbative solution of fourdimensional quantum field theories, we consider a single-fermion truncation of Yukawa theory in discrete light-cone quantization (DLCQ). 1 To regulate the theory we introduce Pauli-Villars (PV) bosons with indefinite metric 2 into the Fock basis. This extends earlier work on model theories by Brodsky, Hiller and McCart...

Se p 19 99 UMN - D - 99 - 3 September 1999 On the Use of Discrete Light - Cone Quantization to Compute Form Factors ∗

There has been assembled a sequence of technologies by which one might eventually compute hadronic form factors directly from quantum chromodynamics (QCD). These include the early work by Drell and Yan [1] and by Brodsky and Drell [2] on the relation of form factors to Fock-state wave functions in light-cone quantization. The wave functions can be calculated, in principle, by the method of disc...

On the Chiral Quark Soliton Model with Pauli-Villars Regularization

The Pauli-Villars regularization scheme is often used for evaluating parton distributions within the framework of the chiral quark soliton model with inclusion of the vacuum polarization effects. Its simplest version with a single subtraction term should however be taken with some caution, since it does not fully get rid of divergences contained in scalar and psuedoscalar quark densities appear...

Gauge Invariant Pauli-Villars Regularization of Chiral Fermions

We extend the idea of the generalized Pauli-Villars regularization of Frolov and Slavnov and analyze the general structure of the regularization scheme. The gauge anomaly-free condition emerges in a simple way in the scheme, and, under the standard prescription for the momentum assignment, the Pauli-Villars Lagrangian provides a gauge invariant regularization of chiral fermions in arbitrary ano...
